Teaching assistant took ‘obscene’ images of students to share with boyfriend for their ‘sick sexual gratification’

Grimsby, England — A teaching assistant exploited her position of trust to capture obscene images of young pupils, then shared them with her boyfriend amid exchanges described in court as vile. The pair, who engaged in these acts for their own sexual gratification, faced justice at Grimsby Crown Court.[1][2] Both received seven-year prison terms following guilty pleas to serious child sex offenses.

The Investigation Begins

Authorities first targeted Christopher O’Kane after an undercover operation uncovered his online discussions revealing a sexual interest in children. The 41-year-old from Scunthorpe, South Yorkshire, fell into a police sting in December 2025.[1] Devices seized during his arrest contained indecent material, including images forwarded by his then-partner, Pamela Martin.

Martin, 44, worked as a teaching assistant at a South Yorkshire school. Police arrested her the following month, January 2026, after linking her to the content. Examination of their phones exposed not only the images but also disturbing messages between the couple about the children involved.[2]

Details of the Offenses

Martin admitted to taking the indecent photographs of pupils during school hours. One instance involved recording an image beneath clothing without consent. She then distributed these to O’Kane, who possessed extreme pornographic material as well.[1]

The court heard charges against Martin included three counts of making an indecent image of a child, two counts of distributing such images, publishing an obscene article, and theft. O’Kane faced similar counts alongside possession of prohibited content. Their actions breached the fundamental trust placed in educators.[2]

Sentencing Hearing

During a two-hour hearing last Friday, both defendants expressed remorse. Judge Guardial Singh addressed them directly, stating, “You have every reason to look ashamed and so you should.” He dismissed their shame as stemming from detection rather than genuine regret.[1]

The judge labeled the images as captured for “deviant purposes” and voiced horror at their “vile” conversations. He warned of the risks should they reconnect post-release. In addition to the seven-year sentences, indefinite sexual harm prevention orders took effect, alongside lifelong registration on the Sex Offenders Register.

Police Statement and Broader Implications

Martin and O’Kane are perverted criminals, and I am reassured that they are now behind bars. I hope the sentence given today sends a clear message that we will not tolerate anyone preying on children for their own sick sexual gratification.

Detective Constable Helena Allison, lead investigator

Allison emphasized Martin’s abuse of her professional role, noting how she created the images while families entrusted her with their children’s care. The case underscored vulnerabilities within educational settings and the vigilance of online monitoring efforts.[2]

With the pair now incarcerated, South Yorkshire authorities continue to prioritize child protection. The sentences serve as a stark reminder of the severe consequences awaiting those who target the vulnerable.
