Dana McNabb, who has spent more than 25 years with the company, will assume the role on June 1 and simultaneously join the board of directors. A Return to Centralized Operations

The COO title had remained vacant at General Mills since 2016. By bringing it back, the company is consolidating oversight of its worldwide business units under one executive. McNabb will report directly to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Harmening while expanding her current responsibilities beyond North America. This structure allows for tighter coordination across regions and functions. It also signals a focus on streamlining decision-making at a time when supply chains and innovation cycles continue to evolve for major food producers.

McNabb’s Track Record at the Company

McNabb joined General Mills in 1999 and rose through marketing and general management roles. Most recently she served as group president of North America Retail, the company’s largest segment, which generated nearly $12 billion in net sales in the prior year. She later added oversight of the North America Pet business, including brands such as Blue Buffalo. Her experience spans iconic American products including Nature Valley, Annie’s, Totino’s, Old El Paso, and Pillsbury. Colleagues have noted her emphasis on consumer-driven growth and operational efficiency in these portfolios.

Expanded Responsibilities Starting in June

In the new position, McNabb will direct all operating segments, including International and North America Foodservice. She will also lead key support functions such as supply chain management, digital and technology initiatives, innovation, quality assurance, and overall strategy and growth efforts. The promotion makes McNabb the first woman employee to serve on General Mills’ board in the company’s 160-year history. Her appointment broadens representation at the highest levels while maintaining continuity with the current leadership team.
